Trek Adventure
Join on board this unique mountain ridge tour that will take you high above the Bay of Kotor in the country known as 'Black' (Negro) 'Mountain' (Monte)' With 3000 meters of ascent along the limestone ridge line of the Dinaric Alps, starting and returning to Sea level every day! This is a specially designed route to test your endurance on the Primorska Planinarska Transverzala trail, stretching across the entire length of the biggest gulf of the Adriatic Sea. With 40 miles along the ridge line 1000m high above the waters, this is a challenge not to be underestimated. To wet your appetite, upon arrival into Herceg Novi join us an optional 5 mile walk up to the Montengro/Croatian border to walk with one foot in either country! After a short transfer on Day 1, we will set off from Perast up to our first peak over across 8 miles with shuttles at the end of the day. Day 2 will see you push yourself over 13 miles along the stunning Vrmac ridge dropping down into Kotor. We then have an absolute gem of a challenge on Day 3 as you take on the astounding Ladder of Cattaro! Count off 70 switchbacks up this steep finale over 14 miles with breathtaking views from the Krstac Pass out to the Adriatic Sea. Your reward on this itinerary is coming down off the mountain each day to your Hotels on the edge of the Bay so kick back and relax in style each night in the charming restaurants overlooking the Bay in the picturesque and enigmatic villages of Perast and Kotor in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will arrive into Dubrovnik the day before the main trek starts where we will arrange transfers over to Herceg Novi at pre-agreed times. You can then opt to stretch your legs on a 1.5-2hr afternoon walk up to the Croatian border.
The following morning we shall have a transfer to Perast to start the climb up to Vranovo Brdo and then descend to Donji Orahovac with shuttles back to Perast into your Hotel Appartment at this beautiful old town overlooking 'Our Lady of the Rocks' island and the narrow strait of Verige.
We will commence the 2nd day of trekking with an exciting boat transfer across the bay to reach the start of the Vrmac ridge to tackle this section with stunning views on either side looking into the bay and out to sea. We shall then descend steeply with a short amble into the magical old town of Kotor where early celebrations in this delightful place may ensue!
One more day and one more mega challenge to conclude this grand tour. The Ladder of Cattero will teast your leg muscles and determination up to the Krystac Pass. Take in striking views at the peak of Derinski Vrh looking across the Bay to absorb just how far you have walked! We shall then make the final ascent back down to the shoreline to celebrate your grand tour of the Boka Kotorska Dinaric Alps...Adventure Cafe style!
We will make the transfer to Dubrovnik airport the following morning.

What is a Level 4.0 Trekking Challenge Like?
You are now moving into the realms of serious challenges - where you are likely to encounter rough and steep terrain, sleep deprivation – ie very long days, or even high altitude. In any case - be prepared for an event which is going to take you well past the limits of your comfort zone. Trekking days will be up to 13 hours, or slightly less if the event stretches over several days. The severity of the challenge may be magnified by various factors - and you will need to be more resilient - variable weather conditions, simple food and maybe camping – these factors forms a part of the challenge. You need to be in good shape to undertake any of these events, and you need to be training regularly. The height gain each day is greater than for level 3 - so expect plenty of hills! A level 4 challenge would involve a very long day (in excess of 28 miles) or some serious hill climbing (multiple peaks in one day) - or possibly both!
How Fit Do I need to be to join a Level 4.0 ‘Trek’?
To participate in these events you need to be in very good fitness. You enjoy taking exercise, and do it regularly (a couple of times a week minimum). You may well partake in several different types of activity, possibly including the gym, swimming, running, or circuit training. You probably are capable of running up to 5 or 6 miles, but in a good steady speed (around 9-10 minute miling). If you do not run - you should be regularly undertaking challenging walks or other strenuous exercise. You should be comfortable walking 17-19 miles in the English lowland countryside.
Medical Issues
Please note, it is extremely important for this physical challenge that you are in good health. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, please consider carefully whether you should be joining the challenge. Please ensure you fill in the booking form accurately and honestly, this is important. In the case of serious conditions (epilepsy, diabetes, heart conditions, recent illness or operations), please discuss the challenge with your GP. Please also ensure you notify us of any allergies or similar. You should be used to walking reasonable distances each day to contemplate this trek. It requires stamina and good aerobic fitness - but good willpower will also come in handy! Failure to disclose medical conditions is a serious omission - that could have serious repercussions on any of our challenges.
Special Notes
With 3000 meters of ascent across 40 miles this is a tough challenge and you must do your training to prepare yourself fully. If it is clear that you have not put in the training or do not have the fitiness to complete the day in a reasonable time then we may be required to take you off the mountain early. Please make the most of your time out in the 'Black Mountain' Dinaric Alps by following our 16 week training plan!
